6 Epic Northwest Hikes

By Whitney | Inspiration

I love the Great Outdoors. Getting out in nature and breathing in its beauty makes me feel alive and recharged. Fortunately, I hail from the Northwest, which is packed with photogenic hikes for the adventurous at heart.

Taking photographs throughout the journey helps me remember exactly what it took to get to that epic overlook or powerful waterfall. The BeFunky Collage Maker is my favorite tool for making each adventure story come to life. Let me show you my favorite places to hike in the Northwest and how to tell a story with the photos.

1. Forest Park

Located in the heart of Portland, Oregon, the trails of Forest Park stretch for 70 miles! It is one of the country’s largest urban forest preserves. In colder months, the fog makes Forest Park an eerie wonderland for trail runners and hikers alike. In the warmer seasons, the trees and freshwater springs provide a cool getaway.

2. Latourell Falls

This epic waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge can be accessed by a short, 2.4 mile loop. The Gorge is filled with tons of beautiful waterfalls, but Latourell offers a picturesque reward without too much effort.

3. Dog Mountain

Looking for an intense cardio workout? Look no further than Dog Mountain, located on the Washington side of the Gorge. This 6.9 mile hike will have you sweating in no time, as the first half is all uphill. But once you get to the top, the view is breathtaking. In Spring, wildflowers color the mountainside, making Dog Mountain even more picturesque.

4. Cape Falcon

The Oregon Coast is littered with beautiful hikes and the views they provide will leave you speechless. The 3-mile Cape Falcon hike will take you through an old growth forest, across creeks and fallen trees, and lead you to this beauty.

5. Trillium Lake

This kid-friendly hike through Mt. Hood National Forest will take you to this amazing, tranquil lake that perfectly mirrors Mt. Hood. In winter, this 6-mile loop is a snowshoer’s wonderland, leading to a frozen Trillium Lake and snowy Mt. Hood looming in the distance.

6. The Pacific Crest Trail

This amazing trail is not limited to the Northwest - it spans from Canada to Mexico! It’s a backpacker’s heaven on earth. The portion of the trail that leads you through Oregon and Washington is lush and green, taking dedicated hikers to epic heights.
