Tips For Stress-Free Christmas Cards
Creating display-worthy Christmas cards needn’t be stressful. By embracing the advice below, you’ll soon be on your way to designing cards that are not only fabulous, but a whole lot of fun to create too!
Start your design early
Let’s face it, the earlier you start your design, the less stress you’ll have when the holiday hoopla begins. In the lead-up to this magical season, it’s understandable that you’ll have a growing list of tasks that need taking care of, whether it’s buying Christmas presents, decorating the house, or planning holiday festivities. Trust us, getting your cards under control should take preference, especially while you have a few weeks to spare before the big days. Starting your design now ensures that you can take the time to make it special, plus you’ll be able to rest easy knowing your loved ones won’t be missing out.
Include your favorite photos from the year
Be sure to collect your favorite photos from the past year and edit them to perfection in BeFunky’s Photo Editor, or why not schedule a good ol’ family photo shoot (matching sweaters optional)?
Doing so will turn your card into more than just a piece of paper to display during the holiday season. It’ll become a keepsake that you and your loved ones will cherish for plenty more Christmases to come.
Add some personality
To make your Christmas card design even more memorable, why not inject some of your unique personality into it? This is a great way to make loved ones smile or even chuckle when they receive your card in the mail. Whether it’s through the photos you choose to include, or by adding a description of what your family has accomplished throughout the year, think of the fun ways that you can add some much-loved personality to your design.
Send them out 2-3 weeks before Christmas
One of the best things about receiving Christmas cards in the lead-up to Christmas Day is the fact that you can display them within the home to add that extra festive cheer to your surroundings. While this is just one advantage of sending your cards out early, there are plenty of other reasons as to why this is important.
You see, there are quite a few card-related tasks you must take care of once you’ve completed your design, including gathering your recipient’s’ postal addresses and deciding on a professional printer or paper quality if choosing to print them at home. Concentrate on tackling these issues early to ensure you can send out your cards 2-3 weeks before Christmas Day.
How To Design A Personalized Christmas Card
Now that you’ve read our advice about keeping the Christmas card process stress-free, it’s time to head to the Card Maker. To begin designing your own festive card, simply navigate to Templates, followed by Greeting Cards, then choose Winter Holiday. From here, you can select your desired template, ready to tweak it to your heart’s content!
Once you’ve chosen your template, the first thing you’ll want to do is to change the existing photo to one of you and your loved one(s). To do this, just click on the photo you want to swap and an Image Properties toolbar appears. From here, you can click on Replace Image and this will allow you to upload one from your very own files.
If you want to change your template’s existing background color, you can do so by clicking on Background in the left-hand menu. From here, you can choose your desired color by selecting a Color Preset or through using the Color Picker tool. The Eyedropper tool will also let you choose a color straight from your design.
The next step in your Christmas card creation is to alter your template’s pre-existing text if you wish. When you click on any text box, a Text Properties toolbar appears, where you can change elements such as Font Family, Font Size, Spacing, Paragraph, Color, and more. You can also change what the text says by clicking on the text box and typing. Additionally, you can add new text by selecting Text in the left-hand menu (the ‘T’ symbol).
Pro TipWant to create a new line of text with the same font and styling as another textbox on your template? Simply click on the text you wish to duplicate and press the “D” button on your keyboard.
Once you’ve finished adding the personal touches to your card template, you can also insert fun Design Elements such as symbols, shapes, and graphics to add some extra pizzazz. You’ll find these in the Design Elements tab, located in the menu on the left (the triangle symbol).
If you want to change the color of any individual design element, just click on the element you wish to alter and a Graphic Properties toolbar appears. Clicking on Color Overlay will bring up the Color Picker option, which lets you select a new color for your graphic. You can then change the Intensity of the color using the slider at the bottom.
Once you love the entire look of your Christmas card design, it’s time to save it so you can soon get it printed and posted to your loved ones! Clicking Save in the top menu will let you save your design to a destination such as your computer or Dropbox. We also recommend the Save as Project option, as this will allow you to come back and edit your card in the future should you need to (for example, to print extra copies or use it as a template for future Christmases!).
Ta-da! When it comes to Christmas cards, yours are totally going to ‘sleigh’.
Thanks to BeFunky’s Card Maker, creating your own cards for the winter holidays has never been easier or more fun. Now that you’ve got your Christmas cards covered, it’s time to start enjoying your favorite holiday festivities!
