How To Use On-Canvas Crop For Image Layers

To get started with these new image layer controls, head to BeFunky’s Photo Editor and upload the image you’d like to use as your background using the Open tab at the top of the page, or simply drag-and-drop the image file into the interface.

Next, click on the Image Manager tab in the left side menu (the top icon) and upload any image(s) you’d like to use as a layer on top of your background image. Once you’re in the Image Manager, you can use the Computer button to upload images from your Computer, click the “” button to access images on your Facebook page or BeFunky account, or click the Search Stock Images button to search over a million free stock photos to use as layers. When your images are uploaded to the Image Manager, they’ll appear as thumbnails in the Image Manager tab. To add them as a layer to your background photo, simply click on the thumbnail and select Add As Layer from the menu that appears.

Whenever your image layer is selected, you’ll now see some white rectangles in addition to the blue circles and dashed lines surrounding it. You can click and drag the blue circles to resize the image layer, and click and drag the white rectangles to crop as you resize the layer. Dragging the white rectangles inward will crop the sides of the image layer, and dragging them outward will expand and zoom into the image layer. Dragging the top and bottom white rectangles inward will crop the top and bottom of the image layer, while dragging them outward will expand and zoom into the image layer. You can always hold the Shift key while dragging the image layer to reposition the viewpoint.

Pro Tip
When you drag the white rectangles, the pixel count will appear in a black box next to your cursor to show you the size of your image layer as you’re cropping.

When you double-click the image layer, even more on-canvas crop options appear! You’ll see a crop target surrounding your image layer (all composed of white edges and rectangles) that you can click and drag to adjust.
