Dia De Los Muertos Dinner Party Menu

Over the years I have spent quite a lot of time in Mexico and have become passionate about Mexican culture, especially the crafts and the food. This year instead of throwing a Halloween party, I have decided to invite my friends for a ‘Day of the Dead’ dinner.

Dia De Los Muertos is an annual holiday that celebrates the lives of deceased loved-ones. While traditions vary across Mexico, families and friends usually get to together to visit cemeteries and offer gifts of flowers and food to the dead. Although sometimes macabre, Dia de Los Muertos is a definitely not a mournful affair and I hope my dinner will be just as enjoyable as the real thing.

I decided to create the menu for my dinner using the Designer Toolset. First I looked for skull illustrations; skeletons are synonymous with the celebrations. I found one that I thought was perfect. I opened the image in the Photo Editor and used the new cut out tool to draw around the two skulls. The feather tool was really useful because my cutting out was a bit messy, and the shadow around the skulls matched the style I wanted.

I then looked at the existing Menu templates in the Designer tool. I liked the background and font of the first Menu template. I experimented with different layouts of the skulls.

After starting to type out my menu, I decided that I also needed a frame to tie everything together. I found the perfect one in the graphics section of the Designer tool.

I typed out the rest of the menu, and sent it with the invitations. Now I just have to make the food look as good as the menu!
