If you’re ahead of the holiday game, you would’ve already started buying gifts for your friends and family. And if you’re super organized, you’ll also have your tree set up to place them underneath (in which case, high-five!). With the season of giving literally just a few weeks away, now is the perfect time to turn your attention to not just what you’ll buy for your loved ones, but how you’ll present them too (no pun intended).
If you love to see your friends and family’s faces light up when they receive a beautifully wrapped gift, then you’ll certainly want to put some extra thought into this area. After all, it’s hard to get overly-excited about a gift that is wrapped in such a lack-lustre and uncreative way – no matter what’s inside. The way your wrapped gift looks sets the pretense of what is to follow, so you want to make sure your loved ones know they’re in for something special!
That’s why we’ll be focusing our attention on gift tags today, along with how you can create your very own eye-catching holiday gift tags using BeFunky’s Collage Maker. Your stress-free festive season starts now!
How To Make Your Gift Tags With BeFunky
To begin creating your very own gift tags, simply navigate to BeFunky’s Collage Maker. Once inside the Collage Maker, you’ll notice a pre-loaded grid template containing 9 squares. To turn this into the perfect rectangular gift tag template, simply click each of the far-right cells, before selecting Delete Cell from the pop-up options.
Once those cells are deleted, your template should now feature 6 rectangles. In order to make them wider (to resemble rectangular gift tags), use your mouse to click on the template’s outer edge, dragging it outwards to resize.
The next step is to begin adding some interesting backgrounds to your gift tags. To do this, select Image Manager in the left-hand menu (if you’re not already in it). From here, you can upload images from your own computer files, or from other destinations such as BeFunky, Pixabay, or Facebook. Pixabay is your go-to destination for millions of free-to-use stock photos, so today we’re going to choose some awesome images from there to use as our gift tag backgrounds!
To access Pixabay, click on the three dots next to Computer, before selecting the Pixabay tab and typing in your search words. We wanted our images to be very festive, so searched for ‘Christmas’.
From the stock image results that appear, simply click each image you want to use in your template and they will automatically appear as thumbnails in the Image Manager. To insert your desired images into the template, simply drag the image thumbnail into a cell or double-click it to have it automatically load into your template.
Pro TipThere is also an Auto Fill option which will automatically fill each cell in your layout with your images. Alternatively, clicking the X button will clear all of your images from your gift tag template, in case you want to start over.
Once your backgrounds are in place, it’s time to add text to your gift tags! This usually takes the form of “to” and “from”, followed by a blank space for you to write in names. To do so, navigate to Text in the left-hand menu. It’s the ‘A’ symbol.
To add a text overlay from scratch, click Add Text and begin typing in the text box that appears. Alternatively, you can also select one of the available presets before customizing it to exactly how you want. When you select your text, a Text Properties toolbar appears, allowing you to edit elements such as Font Family, Font Size, Spacing, Paragraph, Color, Opacity, and more.
Pro TipThere are also plenty of graphics to add as overlays to your gift tags if you feel they need some extra wow-factor. You can find these by navigating to Graphics in the side menu (the heart symbol). There’s a long list of themes to choose from (including a Winter category!), or you can even use the Add Your Own button to upload your own graphic overlay.
Once your holiday gift tags are looking perfect, the final step is to save your collage to a destination such as your computer, Google Drive, or Dropbox. To do this, just click on the Save tab at the top of the Collage Maker and select your destination.
Wasn’t that fun? Now all that’s left to do is to print and cut them out, ready to decorate your loved ones’ gifts with them! Thankfully, printing your gift tags using your home printer is super easy and we would recommend using a thicker card stock to make them extra durable.
Now that your gifts are bought and your tags are printed, all that’s left to do is assemble and wrap them (a.k.a the fun part!). Here are some of our favorite holiday looks for gifting:
One of the easiest ways to add that festive cheer to a wrapped gift is by adorning it in greenery, particularly those famous for the holidays such as mistletoe, pine, or holly.
These natural decorations are particularly suited to plain-colored wrapping paper, so it’s best to avoid any over-the-top patterns or clashing colors when opting for this botanical-inspired look!
Patterned Wrapping Paper
If you’d prefer to keep your gift toppers to a minimum, then it’s recommended that you let your wrapping paper do the talking!
We love some of the unique and cheerful patterns available this year, and encourage you to mix it up a little with non-traditional designs such as polka dots, brush strokes, or geometric shapes. That’s one way to grab your recipient’s attention!
The DIY Look
The DIY look seems to be extremely popular this year, especially among platforms such as Pinterest. One of the best things about this wrapping style is that it allows you to get as creative as you want, so don’t be afraid to dust-off your colored pencils, stamps, stickers, or paint and put your inner artist to the test!
A staple material in this gifting trend is brown butcher’s paper, as the matte texture is perfect for painting and scribbling on. Simply add some twine to fix your gift tag in place and complete the look. Too easy!
While some might be opting for holiday wrapping in all sorts of crazy colors and patterns, it’s understandable that others aren’t ready to give up on the traditional look just yet! Using colors such as gold, silver, red, green, and white will ooze festive spirit, whilst serving as the perfect wrapping backdrop to your DIY gift tags. Even Santa himself would be proud!
These are just four of our favorite gift wrapping ideas for the holidays, however we encourage you to get creative! After all, why not make your gifts as unique as the people you’re giving them to?
With your presents wrapped and your gift tags proudly on display, it’s time to sit back and relax (well, for a moment anyway!). Thanks to BeFunky’s Collage Maker, creating your very own festive gift tags has never been so simple or fun. Happy Holidays!
