Today is your lucky day!
Planning Your Wedding Invitation
As you probably already know, your wedding invite needs to include all of the key information about your big day, therefore it’s important that you have these details locked-in before you design and send out your invitations!
You’ll need to include the following details on your invites:
- both the bride and groom’s names
- the date of your wedding
- start time of the ceremony
- the venue address (for both ceremony and reception venues if at two separate locations)
- RSVP details, including how and where to RSVP (i.e. via phone, online, or through filling-in a separate RSVP card), as well as the RSVP due date.
Additionally, you’ll want to have a clear (and finalized) idea of the color scheme or theme of your wedding, as this will need to be reflected in your wedding invite. Remember how your Save the Date was first in line to successfully communicate these ideas? Cohesivity is the key when it comes to wedding stationery, so you’ll want your official invites to follow-on with this aesthetic.
Another element to keep in mind when designing your wedding invites is to add a personal touch to your design, whether it be through a photo of you and your partner, a custom illustration of the two of you, or even a quirky addition to celebrate something you’re both known for (like your mutual love of Star Wars or cheesy puns…that sort of thing!).
Weddings are all about celebrating you as a unique couple, so don’t be afraid to infuse your invite with some much-needed personality! After all, who wants an invitation that simply looks like everyone else’s? You and your loved ones will want to cherish this momentous piece of stationery for years to come!
If you suddenly find yourself feeling overwhelmed by just how many things you need to keep in mind when designing a wedding invite, don’t fret! The best part about using BeFunky’s design templates is you don’t have to worry about the actual work of designing. The professionals at BeFunky have already designed an array of wedding invites that you can use as a guide. You can then customize these design templates as little or as much as you’d like. Too easy!
How to Create Wedding Invitations With BeFunky’s Design Templates
Now that you have a plan for your Wedding Invites, head to the Designer and navigate to Templates, followed by Event Graphics, then Invitations. From here, you can select your desired template, ready to tweak it in any way you see fit!
The first thing to do is to alter your template’s photo so it features a favorite image of you and your fiancé instead. After all, you want to make it more personal! Many couples partake in a professional engagement shoot in the lead-up to their wedding, so these are great images to use on your invitation. To do this, click on the provided image and an Image Properties toolbar appears. Select Replace Image to open a photo from your own files. Ta-da!
Next up, you’ll want to replace your template’s background image to reflect your wedding theme or color scheme. You can do this using the same method above, or alternatively, you can also locate Image Manager in the menu on the left. From here, you can upload an image from multiple destinations, such as your computer, Befunky, Facebook, or even Pixabay’s extensive library of free-to-use stock photos, providing over one million images at your fingertips!
Quick TipWant a plain colored background instead of an image? Simply locate Background in the left-hand menu and choose your desired color by selecting a Color Preset or through using the Color Picker tool.
Once your background is looking fabulous, you’ll also want to edit the pre-existing text to reflect your own wedding’s aesthetic and details. When you click on any text box, you’ll find that a Text Properties toolbar appears, where you can change elements such as Font Family, Font Size, Spacing, Paragraph, Color, and more. You can also change what the text says by clicking on the text box and typing.
Ready to add some final wow-factor to your wedding invite? This is where the Designer’s thoughtful graphics come in handy! You’ll find all the graphics and overlays you need in the Design Elements tab, found in the menu on the left (the triangle symbol). There are plenty of symbols, shapes, and graphics to choose from here, including a wedding category!
Once your wedding invite is looking perfect, the final step is to save it to a destination such as your computer or Dropbox. We also recommend the Save as Project option, as this will allow you to come back and edit your design in the future should you need to (for example, to print extra copies or change any pesky typos!).
Wasn’t that easy?
Now that you’ve designed your beautiful wedding invite, it’s time to turn your attention to things such as managing the guest list, printing your invitations, and keeping track of RSVPs. Thanks to the digital age, plenty of websites have been springing up which allow brides and grooms to plan and organize their guest list online, keeping these important details (such as guest names, addresses, and contact details) all in the one place. These platforms also allow you to accept RSVPs digitally, saving both time and money in the process. Letting your guests RSVP with the click of a button also means you won’t have to wait around for RSVP cards to arrive in the mail, nor will you have paid to get them printed in the first place!
Websites such as The Knot, RSVPify, and freeRSVP are examples of these, offering brides and grooms the ability to manage both their guest list and invitation responses digitally. Just be sure to include instructions or a link for this on your wedding invite to avoid any confusion.
With your wedding invite design completed, it’s also important for you to focus on the printing phase, as well as decisions surrounding paper type and paper quality.
There are plenty of options when it comes to printing methods, as you can either print your wedding invites using an online service, local printing company, or your own resources (such as a home printer if it’s of high quality). Just be sure to do your research and obtain pricing before making a decision!
Additionally, you’ll need to determine what paper you want your invites printed on. In order to do this, you’ll want to think about two things: paper finish (such as glossy, matte, linen etc.) and weight (i.e. how thick the paper is). Both of these largely depend on what printing method you opt for, but we recommend choosing a card stock with a matte finish. Not only is it suitable to use in all printers (including your printer at home), but it requires less ink than gloss and isn’t susceptible to bleeding (which you commonly find with a linen finish).
One last piece of advice is to always print a sample copy of your wedding invite before you give the go ahead to produce a whole stack of them. This way, you can ensure everything is on-point to begin with, saving you additional time and money!
