Tips for Radiant, Healthy Skin in Photos

By Sarah Foster | Inspiration

When it comes to skincare, we all have days when we fall a little short. Even on our best days, a pesky zit can make its appearance unexpectedly. When that happens, it's good to know that there are ways to effortlessly touch up photos so that you can continue to look your best!

But before you get in front of a camera, we have some tips and tricks to make your skin look its best. If all else fails, we also have some cheats for radiant, healthy skin by using BeFunky's Photo Editor.

How Can I Get Radiant and Healthy Skin?

It seems simple, wash your face and you’ll wake up with perfect skin every day! The fact of the matter is that there is a lot that goes into achieving radiant and healthy-looking skin. We have compiled our five favorite tips for the skin of your dreams and some reasons why they actually work.

1. Drink More Water For Hydrated Skin

Leading dermatologists suggest that dehydrated bodies create dehydrated skin. By upping your water intake and making sure that you are drinking at least the recommended 8 cups of water a day, if not more, then you will start hydrating your body from the inside out! Water helps keep your body healthy by helping things at a cellular level keep hydrated and moving. Dehydrated bodies will have more itchy and dry skin because it is leaching all that moisture to keep the cells in your body doing their jobs. A trick to finding out just how much water you should be drinking in a day is to divide your weight in half and drink that amount in ounces of water! So if you weigh 150 pounds, you’ll want to drink at least 75 ounces of water a day.

2. Technology Detox Before Bed

Researchers have noted that using technology, like social media, in bed increases the likelihood of anxiety, insomnia, and shorter sleep duration. Interrupted sleep has a deep impact on the appearance of your skin. Dark circles will haunt your under eyes, and give away the fact that you had a restless night. Shutting off your phone and avoiding TV for half an hour before bed will help you unwind for a more peaceful sleep. Try reading a book before bed instead!

3. Reduce Sugar and Alcohol Intake

Cutting out processed sugar and alcohol seems like a no-brainer for healthier living, but why does it matter for your skin? Processed sugars interfere with your gut flora and can create more inflammation in your body which causes acne and redness. Of course, keep eating healthy sugars like fruits because they have many benefits for your skin that outweigh the sugar content. The vitamins and fiber from fruits are super helpful for your body.

Now, onto alcohol. Alcohol's impact on your skin is immediate and long-lasting, causing redness and puffiness within minutes of consumption. Alcohol is also a diuretic, causing massive amounts of dehydration quickly. However, the combo of the two is the worst for your skin. Alcohol and processed sugars break down collagen within your skin, this is a vital protein that provides structure to your skin. Cut them out entirely before a big event so that you can have radiant skin for the event, or reduce your intake overall for a healthier appearance to your skin every day.

4. Grab a Daily Moisturizer With SPF

Including a moisturizer in your morning routine will help with hydrated skin, but going a step further and making sure it has at least SPF 30 in it will protect your skin too! SPF is an important tool for everyone to use to be able to protect your skin from harmful UV rays from the sun. These UV rays are the cause of skin cancer, and premature aging; by protecting your skin with SPF you are helping your skin stay healthy. Generally, the rule of thumb is to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours after sweating and swimming, but if you are inside most of the day, this may not be necessary. Including it in your moisturizing routine is a great way to accomplish two tasks in one.

5. Add a Humidifier to Your Bedroom

If you are struggling with itchy and dry skin, a good way to help with hydration is to add a humidifier to your bedroom so that while you're sleeping you are moisturizing. A humidifier helps by adding moisture back into the room and back into your skin. Especially during winter when the cold harsh air sucks all moisture out of your skin, there is only so much a lotion can do. This is a really great tool to incorporate into your life in addition to your skincare that helps to rehydrate your skin with minimal effort!
