When it comes to altering our appearances, you just can’t go past the versatility of hair. Whether it’s curling, straightening, shortening or lengthening, it seems as though there’s an endless amount of ways to jazz-up your look. Perhaps one of our most favorite ways to change things up is through dying our hair, but let’s be real: it can be a scary commitment to make!
If you’ve ever wanted to test out a new color before committing, or just want to have some fun and sample the rainbow (who doesn’t?), then you’re in luck. The Hair Color tool in the Touch Up section of our Photo Editor will change the color of your hair to any shade you can dream of – without having to schedule a permanent dye job.
All About the Hair Color Tool
BeFunky’s Hair Color Tool literally lets you paint on any color you desire. From popular presets such as brunette, black, or blonde, to any shade of the rainbow; it just doesn’t get more fun than this.
Here’s three popular ways you can use the Hair Color Tool to enhance your photo:
Test out a new look
Have you ever gone to the hairdresser to switch your hair color (or done a DIY dye job) only to instantly regret it? Perhaps the color wasn’t anything like you expected, or it just didn’t suit your complexion at all. In situations like this, we all wish we could’ve previewed the color before committing, but now you can! Simply use the Hair Color Tool to paint on your desired color and ta-da! How does it look?
Have a little fun
You might not be contemplating changing your hair color at all, but simply want to have some fun. In this case, the Hair Color Tool can also be used by those who want to shock their friends on social media (classic April Fools joke) or even to just see what they’d look like with whacky colored hair (rainbow stripes anyone?). You can experiment to no end!
Enhance your current hair color
Have you just taken a really nice photo with your BFFs, only to realize it’s been a bit too long between dye jobs, or the sun has totally taken the life out of your hair? If your current hair situation is looking a little dull and lifeless (or your dark roots are on-show), then the Hair Color Tool can also be used to cover these or add some va-va-voom. No one will even know it’s not real!
How to Use the Hair Color Tool
Are you ready to try out this fun tool for yourself? To get started, go to the Photo Editor, before opening an image of your choice. Once your image has uploaded, click on Touch Up in the menu on the left (the eye symbol) and scroll down to locate the Hair Color option, which is underneath the Miscellaneous category.
From here, you’ll notice heaps of options available to you, including a vast Color Palette, Strength, Brush Size, and Brush Hardness.
To begin customizing your subject’s hair color, choose a color underneath Color Palette, or choose your own color by clicking on the first box. This will bring up an additional window that allows you to choose a color directly from the color wheel, or if you have a specific color in mind, you can enter its HEX code in the box provided.
Pro TipWant to choose a color already present in your photo? Just select the Eye Dropper Icon in the Color Palette menu before using it to click on this desired color.
Once your desired hair color has been selected, you can adjust the Strength of the effect by using the slider located directly underneath. Sliding to the left makes the effect weaker, whereas sliding to the right makes it more obvious. You can also repeat this process to adjust the Brush Size, as well as Brush Hardness.
Now comes the fun part – painting on your desired hair color! Use your mouse to guide the brush over your subject’s hair and watch the color transform. If you accidentally paint your effect on a part of the image where it shouldn’t be (i.e. your subject’s skin), then you can also use the Erase tool to simply wipe it away.
Pro TipStarted painting on your effect, only to realize it’s too strong or not strong enough? You can still adjust settings such as Strength, Brush Size, and Hardness as you go!
Once you’ve finished painting on your effect, click the checkmark box to apply it. Then, all that’s left to do is to Save your image. Simply click on Save at the top of your screen. From here, you have the option of saving your image straight to your Computer, as well as Facebook, Dropbox, and more.
If you want to come back to your photo at a later date (i.e. to add some extra effects to it), then we also recommend the Save as Project option (which lets you save it as a BeFunky Project file to your BeFunky account or Computer). Wasn’t that fun?
Before and After
