No-Cook Fourth of July Appetizer

The temperatures here have skyrocketed for the 4th of July weekend and I am sure the entire city will have heatstroke and severe dehydration before the back-to-work Monday. It seems that the hottest weekends are also the long weekends and we get gypped on outside time. What's one to do when it's 100 degrees out? Sip wine by a waterfront (or next to an air conditioner) and make someone else do the grilling? And yet these weekends are always the best weekends for parties, BBQs, and various events where you're supposed to bring something delicious.

It's absolutely a time for avoiding the stove, and even the grill! If you can do a no-cook appetizer or dessert (that's more wow-worthy than a bag of chips and some Pace), you'll save yourself a lot of sweating in the kitchen. This fresh dessert is my absolute no-cook, no-hassle, make-near-your-air-conditioner and eat-next-to-a-fan dessert that's super patriotic! It only takes three ingredients and some skewers and will impress. If you can get out in the heat and pick some fresh fruit for it, even better!

You'll need:

  • Long skewers (soak before using for a few hours)
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Fresh raspberries and blueberries (about a carton of raspberries and a handful of blueberries)

Create an American flag (as seen below) by alternating fruit and marshmallows! Enjoy quickly before everything starts to wilt and melt! Be sure to snap an Instagram photo of the process and final result for your Fourth celebrations. It's too pretty not to add a BeFunky filter to and share with friends.

Enjoy! Happy Fourth!
